More than four years after their initial release, Apple’s AirPods Pro continue to be a pinnacle choice for wireless earbuds, boasting stellar sound quality, exceptional active noise canceling, and a sleek design. As a daily-use device for many Apple enthusiasts, the AirPods Pro have set the standard for premium wireless audio. However, like any technology, they may encounter occasional hiccups, such as Bluetooth connectivity issues. Whether you’re looking to troubleshoot problems or preparing to sell your AirPods, understanding how to reset them is a valuable skill.

Resetting your AirPods is a straightforward process that takes just a few minutes, applicable to all AirPods models, including the original AirPods, AirPods 2, AirPods 3, and the noise-canceling AirPods Pro. To initiate the factory reset, place your AirPods in their charging case and ensure the lid is closed. After 30 seconds, open the lid to connect to your iPhone or iPad. Navigate to Settings > Bluetooth on either device and tap the blue “i” icon next to your AirPods. If your AirPods don’t appear, proceed to the next step.

Tap “Forget This Device” and confirm the action. With your AirPods forgotten, open the lid and press and hold the button on the back of the case for about 15 seconds or until the status light flashes amber, then white. For Android users, the first two steps remain the same, followed by going to Settings > Connected Devices > cog icon next to your AirPods or AirPods Pro. Tap “Forget” and then “Forget device” to complete the process.

Once reset, your AirPods will no longer automatically recognize devices associated with your iCloud account. The next time you open the AirPods case near an iOS device, it will initiate the setup process as if you were using them for the first time.
