For prospective iPad buyers, the reality in 2023 may be a touch frustrating, as the absence of a clear frontrunner leaves us with a plethora of choices but no definitive winner. As we eagerly anticipate the arrival of new iPads in 2024, the market currently lacks that perfect iPad that checks all the boxes. In the interim, our advice is to exercise prudence and opt for more budget-friendly options. The 10th-gen iPad emerges as a strong contender, boasting a well-balanced set of features, an optimally positioned front camera for video chat, USB-C functionality, and a design that aligns with newer models. However, the absence of Pencil 2 support and a slightly higher price point prompts us to recommend the older 9th-gen iPad as the most cost-effective choice for families and young users.

While Apple’s iPad release schedule took a hiatus in 2023, anticipation is building for a robust lineup in 2024, potentially featuring Pro models with OLED displays and the latest Apple M3 chips. We suggest exercising patience or exploring refurbished options if you can wait, although it’s reassuring that all existing iPad models boast extensive app compatibility and commendable multitasking capabilities. As the tech landscape evolves, so too does the promise of more refined and feature-rich iPad options on the horizon.
