The Mac Studio undoubtedly stands out as a top-tier Mac, but for those seeking a powerhouse without the need for Apple’s absolute fastest, the Mac Mini proves to be an excellent choice. Boasting swift processors, ample RAM, and generous storage options, it offers configurations that cater to a variety of needs. Even better, some of these configurations are currently available at discounted rates.

Starting at $599, the 256GB model provides a solid entry point, while the more versatile 512GB model begins at $799. Both models are currently enjoying discounts — a $70 reduction for the baseline model and an impressive $100 off for the 512GB variant. If you’re eyeing the upgraded version with a Pro-level chip and a 1TB SSD, you can seize a $100 saving.

Currently, B&H stands out as one of the few retailers offering these enticing discounts. However, opting to purchase directly from Apple does come with its own set of advantages. Shopping at the Apple Store enables you to customize your machine, whether it’s adding more RAM or selecting a higher-capacity SSD. It’s worth noting that models from other retailers, such as Amazon, often come as fixed configurations, and unlike many other desktops, the Mac Mini’s RAM is not user-upgradable due to the integration of components in Apple’s M2 system-on-a-chip.

For students, Apple offers an educational discount, allowing a $100 savings on the Mac Mini’s regular price. This discount extends to certain upgrades, such as doubling the RAM to 16GB, which comes at a reduced cost of $180, compared to the standard charge of $200.

While Apple’s Certified Refurbished Mac page occasionally features Mac Mini options, it may be too early to find M2 refurbs. Caution is advised against investing in older Intel-based Mac Minis. However, keeping an eye out for potential M1 refurbishments is worthwhile, as they could provide significant savings compared to the starting prices of the new M2 models. Apple’s refurbished products are a reliable way to save money, often presenting quality comparable to brand-new devices.
