In a groundbreaking move, Samsung unveiled its plans to produce two QD-OLED panels specially designed for gamers, introducing both new sizes and higher refresh rates. The dynamic duo includes a 32-inch 4K 240Hz screen and a 27-inch 1440p 360Hz screen, setting the stage for a gaming monitor revolution. The pre-CES launches saw Samsung introducing the 32-inch G8 (G80SD) and the new 27-inch G6 (G60SD), complemented by a refreshed 49-inch Odyssey OLED G9 (G95SD) featuring a 5,120×1,440 240Hz panel. Notably, the two smaller models adopt a flat design, departing from the curved aesthetic.

Not to be outdone, LG entered the arena with its UltraGear OLED displays, offering competing options with enhanced refresh rates. Leading the charge is the UltraGear 32 OLED, featuring dual-refresh technology capable of 4K at 240Hz and 1080p at an astounding 480Hz.

While specific pricing and availability details remain elusive, the pixel refresh rates of approximately 0.03ms on all Samsung OLED/QD-OLED panels promise an exceptional gaming experience. All three Samsung monitors comply with VESA DisplayHDR True Black 400 standards, support FreeSync Pro, and boast matte (antiglare) finishes. The versatile stands on the G8 and G6 models allow users to tilt, swivel, pivot, and adjust the height of the screen to their preference.

A notable evolution in OLED/QD-OLED screens is the increased prevalence of matte finishes, addressing the challenges posed by glossy screens in well-lit environments. Samsung’s Odyssey OLED G6 (G60SD) adds a fresh dimension to the lineup, targeting esports enthusiasts with its 360Hz, 27-inch, 1440p configuration. Dual refresh technology, while not entirely new, remains a rarity, making its appearance in LG’s flat UltraGear OLED 32 (32GS95UE) a noteworthy addition. The inclusion of Pixel Sound behind-the-screen speaker technology further enhances LG’s gaming monitor offerings.

The UltraGear OLED 34 (34GS95QE) and 39 (39GS95QE) models from LG, with their curved design and upgraded 240Hz refresh rates, round off the gaming monitor lineup. With DisplayHDR True Black 400, FreeSync Premium Pro, and G-Sync Compatible compatibility, LG’s OLED monitors are poised to set new standards in gaming visuals in the coming year.
