AMD has recently unveiled its Ryzen 8000 series of mobile processors, marking another leap in mobile computing performance. However, the company is wasting no time in pushing boundaries further, with confirmation that its upcoming mobile chip, Strix Point, will transition to the highly anticipated Zen 5 architecture. Dr. Lisa Su, CEO of AMD, revealed this exciting development during the company’s fourth-quarter 2023 earnings report. The financials showcased remarkable growth, with a staggering 3,076 percent increase in net income compared to the previous year, reaching $667 million. Revenue also climbed impressively by 10 percent to $6.168 billion.
Despite the recent launch of the Ryzen 8000 series in December, Su emphasized AMD’s forward-looking approach, stating that Strix Point is slated for release later in the year. While the Ryzen 8000 series presents notable advancements, Strix Point promises even greater innovation. Su highlighted its potential to deliver over three times the AI performance of the Ryzen 7040 series, owing to its integration of the Zen 5 core, enhanced RDNA graphics, and updated Ryzen AI engine. Anticipation for Strix is palpable, with initial notebooks scheduled to debut soon.
Although AMD previously hinted at Strix Point’s remarkable AI capabilities, formal confirmation of its association with Zen 5 is yet to be announced. Additionally, specifics regarding the graphics technology, rumored to incorporate RDNA 3.5, remain undisclosed. Su projected robust revenue growth for 2024, particularly in the latter half of the year, aligning with seasonal trends. With a focus on extending AI PC leadership and introducing the next wave of Zen 5 CPUs, AMD aims to capitalize on strong growth opportunities in the client business segment.
In the competitive landscape, AMD’s Strix Point will stand as a formidable contender against Intel’s Meteor Lake and Lunar Lake architectures. Intel’s promise of tripled NPU AI performance underscores the escalating competition in the mobile computing arena, setting the stage for an exciting era of technological advancement.
