Samsung’s Galaxy S24 Ultra boasts all the hallmarks of its predecessors: a sprawling screen, unparalleled zoom capabilities, and the coveted S Pen stylus. Yet, amidst these familiar features lies a missed opportunity—an untapped potential waiting to be unleashed through Galaxy AI.

The introduction of Galaxy AI across the entire Galaxy S24 lineup, with promises of integration into the Galaxy S23 family in a future update, is undoubtedly a step in the right direction. However, one can’t help but wonder why Samsung didn’t seize the chance to elevate the Galaxy S24 Ultra experience with exclusive AI features tailored to its premium status.

With a price tag of $1,300, the Galaxy S24 Ultra warrants more than just parity with its counterparts. It could have served as the canvas for innovative Galaxy AI functionalities, harnessing the unique capabilities of the S Pen to redefine user interaction and productivity. Picture drawing tools that blend user sketches with AI-generated artwork or enhanced image and video editing options tailored for the Ultra’s photography-centric audience—these are just a glimpse of the possibilities that Galaxy AI could have unlocked.

While Galaxy AI’s current focus on communication, productivity, and photography aligns with the Galaxy S24 Ultra’s target demographic, there’s room for differentiation. As Won-Joon Choi, Samsung’s executive vice president, hinted, the future of Galaxy AI could see a more nuanced approach, tailored to each device’s distinct form factor.

As it stands, the Galaxy S24 Ultra remains distinguished by its telephoto lens, embedded S Pen, and expansive display—features that have long defined its identity. Yet, with Galaxy AI poised for further evolution, there’s hope that Samsung will seize the opportunity to further elevate the Galaxy S24 Ultra, cementing its position as a true flagship device.
