Update KB5034765, touted as a crucial security patch in this month’s Patch Tuesday lineup, has unexpectedly turned into a nightmare for numerous Windows 11 users. Reports flood in detailing how the update wreaks havoc on systems previously running smoothly.
For those with Windows 11 22H2 or Windows 23H2, the most current major versions, the update process grinds to a halt at 96 percent, leading to installation failures with the dreaded error code 0x800F0922. Microsoft has officially acknowledged this issue, adding to the growing list of problems associated with KB5034765 since its rollout on February 13.
Beyond installation woes, users encounter a cascade of issues post-update, including disappearing taskbars, File Explorer crashes, and performance degradation. While Microsoft has remained tight-lipped on these additional problems, they have addressed the installation failure and error message 0x800F0922, particularly for Windows 11 version 23H2 and Windows 11 version 22H2.
In response, Microsoft is actively working on a solution and plans to release an update. In the meantime, the company offers a temporary workaround: deleting the hidden folder C:$WinREAgent. This preemptive action, followed by a system restart, aims to circumvent the installation hiccup and ensure a successful update process.
However, users should note that accessing the hidden folder requires enabling the display of hidden elements in File Explorer’s settings, found under “View > Show > Hidden elements.”
