Intel has expanded its Intel Application Optimization (IAO) technology to include an additional dozen games, promising enhanced framerates for users with supported processors and the technology enabled. Notably, this advancement extends compatibility to older processors, albeit with some adjustments required.

The update to the technology coincides with the launch of the Core i9-14900KS processor, renowned for its exceptional speeds of up to 6.2GHz. However, IAO introduces an additional speed boost, with Intel reporting up to an 11 percent performance improvement in Metro: Exodus.

Initially launched alongside the 14th-gen Core lineup with support limited to titles like Metro: Exodus and Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege, the recent updates have broadened its scope to include popular titles such as World of Warcraft, Red Dead Redemption 2, Dirt 5, and F1 2022, among others.

IAO is integrated into Intel Dynamic Tuning Technology (Intel DTT) and necessitates the installation and activation of Intel DTT to function. Users can access a user interface for IAO via the Microsoft Store. While Intel hasn’t disclosed intricate details about IAO’s operation, it’s known to influence the distribution of workload threads across cores via Intel’s Thread Director.

Intel validates specific games for particular processors, such as the Core i7-14700HX and Core i9-14900HX for mobile devices, while desktop users benefit from full support on the Intel Core i9-14900K/KF/KS and Core i7-14700K/KF processors.

However, users have the option to utilize Advanced Mode, enabling IAO even in unsupported games and potentially extending compatibility to limited 12th- and 13th-gen Core chips. Intel emphasizes that employing Advanced Mode entails certain risks and doesn’t guarantee performance improvements or optimizations.

This expansion implies that users with high-end processors may enjoy even greater performance gains than initially anticipated. As Intel continues to update IAO with additional games and processor compatibility, users can anticipate further enhancements in the future.
