PCIe Resizable BAR (Base Address Memory) has emerged as a game-changing technology, enhancing communication efficiency between the graphics card’s video memory and the processor, thereby potentially boosting gaming performance. However, this advancement was previously exclusive to Nvidia’s latest GeForce RTX 30 series. Fortunately, a new mod has bridged the gap, extending ReBAR support to slightly older cards belonging to the RTX 20 and GTX 16 series.

Dubbed “NvStrapsReBar,” this tool, available on GitHub, modifies recent UEFI/BIOS systems to enable ReBAR functionality on these aging cards. Derived from the popular ReBarUEFI mod, it broadens support for ReBAR across processors dating as far back as 2011.

While implementing the mod may pose some challenges, particularly for those less experienced in tech tinkering, it remains within reach for enthusiasts capable of editing registry files. However, it’s worth noting that the mod’s compatibility isn’t as extensive as its predecessor, leaving out the widely used GTX 10 series.

Nonetheless, considering the GTX 1650 and RTX 2060 rank as the second and third most popular GPUs among gamers, respectively, based on the latest Steam hardware survey, this mod stands to provide a significant performance boost for a considerable user base.
