Microsoft has streamlined the upgrade process from Windows 10 to Windows 11 23H2, the latest major update for the operating system. Now, all Windows 10 users can directly upgrade to Windows 11 23H2, eliminating the cumbersome step of first upgrading to Windows 11 22H2.

Previously, users had to navigate through this intermediate upgrade, but Microsoft’s recent change aims to simplify the transition. Although the company hasn’t officially announced this update, it has already begun implementing it on the server side.

With this change, Windows 10 users will no longer be prompted to upgrade to Windows 11 22H2. Instead, they will directly receive the option to upgrade to Windows 11 23H2. However, some users may still need to undergo this conversion process. If the direct upgrade to Windows 11 23H2 isn’t available on your Windows 10 computer yet, you’ll need to perform another system update after upgrading to Windows 11.

As Windows 10 approaches its end-of-life status in 2025, Microsoft is focused on facilitating smoother transitions to Windows 11. This move is crucial, especially considering the stagnant market share of Windows 11 in recent months. Furthermore, aligning downloads with Windows 11 23H2 makes sense given Microsoft’s support plans. While support for Windows 11 22H2 ends in October 2024, Windows 11 23H2 will receive support until November 2025.
