Google has officially announced that its Pixel 9 launch event will take place on August 13 at 10 a.m. PT. Alongside the new Pixel 9 series, the event will unveil the Pixel 9 Pro Fold, Google’s latest foray into foldable smartphones. While details on how the new model will differentiate itself from the original Pixel Fold remain sparse, it’s expected to offer enhanced features.

The announcement came via a post on X (formerly Twitter), which also featured a playful word search hinting at reasons to consider upgrading your phone. The event’s invite specifically mentioned the Pixel 9 Pro and the Pixel 9 Pro Fold, indicating that the latter will likely offer significant improvements over its predecessor, the Pixel Fold launched in June 2023.

Interestingly, there was no specific mention of the standard Pixel 9 in the initial post, leading to speculation that it might be launched alongside the Pro models. The teaser images show a design shift from the Pixel 6’s “visor” camera setup to a sleek, pill-shaped camera block. The Pixel 9 Pro Fold will sport a similar camera arrangement but with additional features, including four cameras split into two rows.

The Pixel 9 Pro also introduces a new design language with flat sides, reminiscent of recent iPhone models, diverging from the previous rounded edges. While the Pixel 9 Pro Fold appears similar in design, it features more pronounced rounded edges on the cover screen, giving it a distinct look compared to the original Pixel Fold.

As always, Google is likely to continue teasing details leading up to the August 13 event, so stay tuned for more information on potential additional releases.
