With the upcoming release of iOS 18 this fall, Apple is set to introduce new features like customizable home and lock screens for iPhone users. Building on previous updates, including iOS 17’s expansion of anti-harassment measures, Apple introduced the Sensitive Content Warnings feature in 2023. Designed to combat harassment such as unsolicited nude images, this feature utilizes on-device machine learning to analyze and block potentially sensitive photos and videos.
Sensitive Content Warnings initially covered nudity but expanded with iOS 17.2 to include explicit stickers and Contact Posters. Although these warnings are off by default, enabling them is straightforward:
- Open Settings.
- Navigate to Privacy & Security.
- Tap on Sensitive Content Warning.
- Toggle the switch next to Sensitive Content Warning.
Once activated, any content flagged as sensitive will appear blurred with a message indicating potential sensitivity. This applies to Messages, AirDrop, Contact Posters, and FaceTime video messages. You can customize which apps and services apply these warnings under App & Service Access within the Sensitive Content Warning settings.
If you receive sensitive content and need assistance, tapping the exclamation mark in the top-right corner of the blurred content provides access to safety resources. These include tips on handling harassment and considerations before opening blurred images or sending sensitive content. Resources cater to both adults and young users, ensuring comprehensive support.
For those who wish to view potentially sensitive content, tapping “Show” in the bottom-right corner of the blurred image allows access, offering users control over their experience.
