Intel has announced an extension of the warranty period for its 13th- and 14th-gen Core desktop processors by an additional two years. This move aims to restore customer confidence following recent issues with the chips. Originally, these processors came with a three-year warranty; now, they will be covered for a total of five years.

The decision comes in response to problems that caused unexplained crashes and Blue Screens of Death (BSODs) in some of Intel’s latest chips. The company identified the root cause as elevated operating voltage due to a microcode algorithm issue and plans to address this with firmware updates later this month. However, this fix won’t repair any CPUs already damaged by the issue.

Intel is currently undergoing significant organizational changes, including laying off 15,000 employees and reevaluating its product lines. Despite this, the company has reassured customers through its community forum, emphasizing its commitment to supporting users experiencing instability with their processors.

For those with boxed processors, Intel’s customer support will manage warranty claims. If the processor was part of a pre-built system, customers should contact the system manufacturer. Intel promises to provide more details about the extended warranty in the near future and has apologized for the delay in addressing these issues.
