Intel is set to unveil its next-generation Core Ultra processors, codenamed Lunar Lake, at a live-streamed event from IFA in Berlin on September 3 at 9am PT. This event will showcase the advanced features of these new mobile CPUs, highlighting their x86 power efficiency, exceptional core performance, significant graphics improvements, and cutting-edge AI computing capabilities.
The presentation will be led by Intel’s Michelle Johnston Holthaus, executive vice president and general manager of the Client Computing Group, alongside Jim Johnson, senior vice president and general manager of the Client Business Group. They will be joined by various notebook partners to discuss the new processors.
Intel’s typical launch strategy involves an initial technical overview followed by a full product release. After providing a detailed technical background at Computex, Intel is expected to reveal comprehensive details about Lunar Lake, including processor models and clock speeds, at the Berlin event. Notebooks featuring Lunar Lake are anticipated to be announced at CES in January, with more than 80 designs expected this fall, as stated by Intel’s CEO Pat Gelsinger.
In addition to the mobile CPUs, Intel’s Arrow Lake desktop chip is also on the horizon, scheduled for release in the fourth quarter of 2024. While not featured in the IFA announcement, it remains on track for its fall release.
Lunar Lake introduces some notable changes: on-package DRAM means laptops will come with fixed memory options of 16GB or 32GB, and the chip’s architecture consists of four efficiency cores and four performance cores, with hyperthreading removed. However, the new 48 TOPS NPU and the Xe2 graphics architecture promise significant performance enhancements, with the latter eventually being used in a discrete GPU for desktops, known as Battlemage.
