Microsoft Clipchamp’s video editor is one of the company’s standout products, and now it’s getting a major boost with AI integration. Microsoft has made AI a top priority, and it’s bringing those capabilities to Clipchamp in three significant ways.

Starting today, both Personal and Work accounts will benefit from two new features: background removal and noise suppression. But the most exciting addition is set to arrive this fall—an AI-driven video creation feature. This groundbreaking tool will allow users to generate entire videos from a simple prompt, with the AI selecting video clips, audio tracks, and transitions automatically.

Clipchamp, Microsoft’s integrated video editor for Windows, is designed as a user-friendly web app. While it may not offer the advanced capabilities of professional editing software like Da Vinci Resolve, its ease of use makes it accessible to everyone, much like Microsoft’s Paint and Photos apps.

For users who may not have professional equipment like a green screen or high-quality microphone, Clipchamp’s new AI features are particularly useful. The noise suppression tool, for instance, will filter out unwanted background sounds, such as wind, with just a toggle in the Audio panel. This means you can easily remove distractions from your footage or keep ambient sounds like ocean waves for a more immersive experience.

Background removal, another new feature, takes a familiar concept from static images and applies it to video. You can now remove the background from a video clip and replace it with a different image or video, opening up new creative possibilities.

Looking ahead, the most intriguing feature is set to launch this fall. Currently, Clipchamp offers preconfigured templates for various occasions, but these are all predesigned by Microsoft. Soon, users will be able to generate custom templates via AI prompts. According to Microsoft’s 365 roadmap, you’ll be able to type a prompt, and Clipchamp will create a video project complete with a script, stock footage, music, voiceovers, text overlays, and transitions. While you’ll still need to customize the final video with your own content, this feature promises to significantly streamline the video creation process.
