Skype is about to get a significant makeover, promising a more streamlined and feature-rich experience for its users. As Microsoft shifts its focus, Skype will no longer feature ads, aiming to enhance the overall user experience.

Starting with the latest Insider version 8.125.76.201, Skype will be completely ad-free across all platforms—Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, and Android. This change is expected to make the interface cleaner and more visually appealing by removing distracting ads and reducing MSN content, although the feed will still be present but in a minimized form.

In addition to the ad removal, Microsoft is rolling out new AI-powered features. Among these is an AI-supported image generation tool, allowing users to create images directly within chat. The image generation interface has also been updated for a better user experience. Furthermore, Skype’s menu navigation has been optimized for quicker access to content, and Mac users will notice a redesigned, more cohesive interface.

While these updates are promising, Skype faces stiff competition from other communication apps like Zoom, Teams, and WhatsApp, which continue to innovate. These changes are currently available only to Skype Insiders, with a broader rollout yet to be announced.
