Starlink is expanding its offerings with a new invite-only family plan, according to a recent update on its support page. The family plan, which is only available to select residential customers in the US, allows users to add an additional subscription. While Starlink has not officially disclosed the discount amount, clues from the order page code suggest that the discounted rate will be $100.
The support page notes that all subscriptions under the family plan will be billed together on the account’s monthly billing day. This move comes shortly after Starlink’s June price cut for its satellite dish, which was reduced from $499 to $299 in 29 states with ample network coverage.
Family plans are uncommon in the internet service industry, more typically associated with cellphone and streaming services. Starlink’s approach is reminiscent of Netflix’s family plan, which offers an extra member at a reduced rate. For users in rural areas who need multiple dishes, like those on farms, this new discount could be particularly advantageous.
The support page also outlines that maintaining the discount requires continuous subscription to a full-price service plan; canceling the full-price plan will result in the immediate removal of the family plan discount. Starlink has yet to reveal the criteria for receiving an invitation or when these invitations will be sent out.
