Is your computer feeling sluggish? Why not just download more RAM? (If you’re too young to have Googled “lower back pain,” you might have missed this classic internet joke.) In a similar vein, Logitech is bringing a real-world upgrade to some of its high-end gaming mice by enhancing sensor DPI through a software update. How cool is that?

Logitech recently revealed that all mice in its G series equipped with the Hero 2 sensor will receive a boost to their maximum resolution—an impressive 44,000 DPI (dots per inch)—via a software update set for release in October.

This exciting news comes from PC Gamer, who reported on Logitech’s Logi Play conference. As of now, only three mice feature the Hero 2 sensor: the Pro X Superlight 2, the newly launched Pro X Superlight 2 Dex (which boasts an 8K polling rate and a more grippy design), and the older ambidextrous Pro 2 Lightspeed. (Seriously, Logitech—your gaming mouse names could use some work!)

While the Hero 2 sensors in the older Pro 2 Lightspeed and Pro X Superlight 2 are technically identical to the one in the Pro X Superlight 2 Dex, they currently operate at a lower 32,000 DPI out of the box. This means the new Pro X Superlight 2 Dex and its predecessors will offer the highest DPI available in any gaming mouse on the market. For comparison, Razer’s flagship Viper V3 Pro mouse maxes out at “only” 35,000 DPI.

This might sound like overkill, especially for someone like me who rarely sets my mouse above 1,200 DPI, even while gaming. But hey, I’m not exactly a 360 noscope master! These enhancements will roll out through Logitech’s comprehensive G driver system, so keep an eye out for the update. Expect most of Logitech’s gaming mice priced over $100 to come with the Hero 2 sensor by default moving forward.
