Laptops equipped with AMD’s Ryzen AI 300 and Intel’s Core Ultra Series 2 chips are on the cusp of becoming Copilot+ PCs, thanks to their substantial AI processing power. These processors meet the AI horsepower required to run the advanced Windows features associated with Copilot+ qualification. However, they haven’t yet been officially recognized as Copilot+ PCs. This will soon change, as Microsoft plans to release a Windows 11 update in November, enabling these features on qualifying devices.
According to Microsoft, the upcoming update will unlock several Copilot+ features for these powerful chips, including Live Captions, the upgraded Photos app, Windows Studio Effects, and the newly enhanced Paint app with AI-powered creation tools. Until now, Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X Elite has been the sole chip with Copilot+ capabilities, having surpassed the crucial 40 AI TOPS benchmark, which serves as the unofficial threshold for Copilot+ features. With the NPUs in Intel’s Lunar Lake Core Ultra Series 2 and AMD’s Ryzen AI 300 also exceeding this threshold, these devices are poised to deliver a similar experience.
Furthermore, Microsoft will start testing another key Copilot+ feature, the contentious Recall feature, in October.
