AMD’s Fluid Motion Frames 2 (FMF2) is designed to rival Nvidia’s DLSS, offering an AI-powered frame generation technology aimed at elevating gaming performance. Originally released in beta in July as part of the Adrenalin software suite, FMF2 is now available in its first stable form through Adrenalin version 24.9.1.
AMD highlights FMF2 as “AI-optimized for improved quality and smoothness,” boasting lower frame generation latency with reduced overhead on integrated graphics. It supports borderless full-screen mode, an essential feature for gamers running background apps, and works seamlessly with Vulkan and OpenGL-based games.
FMF2 is compatible with AMD RX 6000 and RX 7000 GPUs, both on desktops and laptops, and with systems featuring RDNA 3 integrated graphics like the Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 laptops. When paired with the Hyper-RX suite, AMD claims FMF2 can significantly boost frame rates, potentially doubling or tripling performance when combined with high-end hardware like the RX 7900 XTX.
In addition to FMF2, the latest Adrenalin 24.9.1 update introduces “geometric downscaling” to reduce artifacts in downscaled windows and includes HYPR-Tune support for games like Black Myth Wukong, God of War Ragnarök, and Frostpunk 2. The full driver suite is available for download now.
