Samsung’s upcoming software update is generating a lot of buzz, with leaks and rumours that promise significant changes and new features.

Unfortunately, however, it looks like we won’t get to try out the novelties of this update for some time yet. According to the latest information, its release has been delayed.

But when will the first One UI 7 beta be released and what exactly will it offer? Here’s everything you need to know, including its release schedule and the exciting new features it will bring to Samsung devices.

When will my Galaxy get One UI 7?

Firstly, SamMobile reported that Samsung was expected to release the beta version of the One UI 7.0 in the third week of August 2024.

However, the website later reported that it had been delayed until September, although didn’t happen either. Rumours (via Notebookcheck) suggested that Samsung postponed the rollout due to significant bugs, although no official reason was provided until recently.

At Samsung’s latest developer conference, it was finally announced that the full release of One UI 7, including the Android 15 update for Galaxy phones, would arrive much later than the previous One UI 6 rollout, which launched in October 2023.

Samsung also confirmed that while the first One UI 7 beta for developers will launch later this year, the final version is expected to debut alongside the Galaxy S25 series in January or February 2025.

Additionally, known tipster @samsonsirji shared that Samsung’s development team has been directed to complete a “mostly stable” beta build by 31 October 2024.

As per previous rumours (via GSMArena), the update will be available in seven countries, including South Korea, China, Germany, India, Poland, the US, and the UK, with a phased release starting in South Korea, Germany, and the US.

Samsung usually begins with its latest flagship models, so the Galaxy S24 series and the recently released Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6 are likely to be the first to receive the update.

Following the initial release, the update should gradually roll out to other devices, including the Galaxy S23 series and other recent models, throughout the remainder of the year.

Which version of Android is One UI 7?

One UI 7 is based on Android 15, which itself is shaping up to be a substantial update.

Android 15 brings a host of new features and improvements, and Samsung’s One UI 7 will build on these with its own suite of enhancements and customisations.

What new features will One UI 7 have?

One UI 7 is expected to be the most changed iteration in the history of Samsung’s custom Android skin.

A report from leaker Chun Bhai (via SmartPrix) and a leak from Ice Universe have given a sneak peek into what to expect from the upcoming software.

The changelog shared on Weibo reveals a variety of enhancements and visual updates.

A recent video by Mobile Wala Bhai on YouTube showcases the new UI on a Galaxy S24 Ultra, highlighting several notable design updates. Key changes include a split Quick Panel, which divides notifications and quick settings into separate pages, enhancing organisation.

For everyone who prefers reading, here are some of the key features and updates expected.

New icons and interface changes

One of the most noticeable updates in One UI 7 might be the redesign of app icons and the overall interface.

Icons are expected to feature a more unified and modern look, and several elements of the user interface will receive aesthetic and functional improvements. The lock screen and home screen might also see changes, offering more customisation options and a cleaner design.

Initial leaks (via SamMobile) of the beta version were reportedly met with criticism for the strange design of stock app icons, particularly for apps like Camera, Contacts, and Samsung Notes.

However, Samsung appears to have responded to feedback, as known leaker Ice Universe reports that the latest internal version includes better-looking icons for these apps.

In addition to icon changes, SamMobile also reports that One UI 7.0 introduces several enhancements. Notable improvements include revamped animations, a redesigned battery icon, a new charging animation, and a two-page layout for the Quick Panel.

Notifications are now larger, with rounded corners and circular icons. The app drawer search bar has been moved to the bottom for easier one-handed access, and quick settings toggles have become more customisable.

A major update to the Camera app UI now places all controls at the bottom, streamlining one-handed use. Samsung’s attention to user feedback suggests that further refinements will come before the final release.

App lock and security enhancements

One UI 7 is also said to introduce a new ‘App Lock’ feature, which allows users to secure individual apps with a separate passcode or biometric authentication.

This could add an extra layer of security for sensitive apps and data.

Enhanced notification system

The notification system in One UI 7 might see significant upgrades, including the introduction of ‘Continuity notifications’.

This feature is said to ensure that notifications sync seamlessly across all connected Samsung devices, providing a more integrated and user-friendly experience.

Improved multitasking

All the signs are that Samsung will continue to enhance multitasking capabilities with One UI 7.

The update might bring better support for split-screen and multi-window modes, making it easier to use multiple apps simultaneously, especially for the brand-new Galaxy Z Fold 6.

Additionally, the taskbar has been reportedly revamped for quicker access to frequently used apps and functions.

Dynamic Island-like feature

According to reports, this will offer a dynamic and interactive area on the screen that provides contextual information and shortcuts, enhancing the overall user experience.

Revamped settings menu

The settings menu in One UI 7 could be more intuitive and easier to navigate, with a cleaner layout and improved search functionality. Key settings might be more accessible, with the menu offering more personalised options based on user behavior.

The camera and gallery apps might also receive updates. Expect enhancements in photo and video editing tools, better organisation features and new options for sharing and storing media.

Accessibility features

Lastly, Samsung seems to be focusing on making its devices more accessible with One UI 7.

New features aimed at users with disabilities might be included, such as enhanced voice control, improved screen reader capabilities and more customisable accessibility settings.

Overall, One UI 7 looks to be a significant step forward for the software you can find on Samsung’s Galaxy phones. We will update this article when we learn something new.
