The long wait for an update to the next version of Android has finally come to an end.

Google has officially begun gradually rolling out Android 15 to supported Pixel devices, with a broader release expected later this week. Some users have already received the update on their devices, marking the beginning of the upgrade process.

The list of supported devices includes the Pixel 6 series, the Pixel 7 series, the Pixel 8 series, the Pixel 9 series as well as a couple of additional devices.

Here’s the full list of confirmed devices:

Other Android phone and tablet makers will likely follow soon with their Android 15 upgrade, including Samsung, Motorola, OnePlus and more.

Android 15 introduces a range of new features and improvements. It enhances performance and efficiency with an upgraded AV1 software decoder, better PDF handling, and improved font rendering.

Users will have more control over app management, with the ability to archive apps to save space and create a Private space for storing sensitive apps, which can be secured with an extra layer of authentication.

New APIs in the update also allow apps to prioritise power efficiency over performance, which can be particularly beneficial for conserving battery life.

What’s more, the update also brings various enhancements to the user experience. These include richer previews for widgets, improvements to the picture-in-picture mode, and refined settings for Do Not Disturb.

Android 15 has also been optimised for device compatibility, with dedicated support for foldable displays, satellite connectivity, and better integration with NFC and Wallet functionalities.

Multitasking on larger screens sees significant improvements too, making it easier for users to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.

Overall, this update aims to deliver a smoother, more efficient, and more versatile experience across a range of Pixel devices and other Android phones, with particular focus on enhancing functionality for foldable and large-screen devices.
