In September, Apple launched iOS 18 to the public, shortly after unveiling the iPhone 16 lineup, Apple Watch Series 10, and more during its “Glowtime” event. This update introduced a variety of new features designed to enhance user experience, including customizable home and lock screens. One notable enhancement is the improved organization of the Notes app through the addition of collapsible sections.
While users have previously relied on tags to keep their notes organized, these only allow for the categorization of entire notes rather than the specific content within them. With the new collapsible sections feature, you can maintain a tidy and organized structure within individual notes, making it much easier to locate information.
For those who have explored the iOS 18 beta, here’s how to create collapsible sections in the Notes app to keep your notes organized:
- Open the Notes app.
- Tap the new note button, represented by a square and pen icon at the bottom right of your screen.
- Title your note (for example, “Weeks of the Month”).
- Access the formatting toolbar by tapping the “Aa” icon at the top of your keyboard; you may need to tap the plus (+) icon in the top right corner first.
- Choose “Heading” or “Subheading” to label your sections (like the days of the week).
- Enter your information under these headings and subheadings.
- Tap the space before the headings or subheadings, and a down arrow will appear to their left.
- Click the arrow to collapse the content beneath the selected heading or subheading.
It’s important to remember that headings and subheadings do not collapse into each other, but a subheading under a heading will collapse into it. Additionally, if multiple titles exist within a note, everything can collapse under the respective title.
With this feature, keeping your Notes organized has never been easier. Personally, I utilize collapsible sections to track my work week and meetings, enabling me to quickly reference past tasks and upcoming commitments.
