Raspberry Pi Pico 2 W Debuts with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth at Just $7
Raspberry Pi enthusiasts and DIY tinkerers have a reason to celebrate: the Raspberry Pi Pico 2 W has officially been launched, bringing built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth to the Pico series. Available now through select resellers, the Pico 2 W starts at an incredibly affordable $7, just $2 more than the standard Pico 2.
Unlike the Raspberry Pi computers, the Pico series are microcontrollers designed for specific hardware projects, offering more control and versatility than basic breakout boards. Earlier this year, the Pico 2 introduced an upgraded dual-core Arm Cortex-M33 processor, 520KB of SRAM, and a robust switch-mode power supply. The Pico 2 W builds on this foundation by incorporating an Infineon CYW43439 wireless modem, enabling 802.11n Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 5.2. These wireless features significantly expand its potential applications, making it ideal for projects requiring remote connectivity.
Raspberry Pi founder Eben Upton hinted at future additions to the Pico 2 lineup, suggesting that more variants may be revealed early next year. For now, makers can purchase the Pico 2 W through PiShop.us, Vilros, and CanaKit, while other retailers like Adafruit are preparing to stock the device soon.
With its new wireless capabilities and affordable price, the Raspberry Pi Pico 2 W opens the door to even more creative possibilities in the world of microcontroller projects.
