Microsoft Withdraws WinAppSDK 1.6.2 Update After Breaking App Updates and Uninstalls on Windows 10

Starting on November 12, Windows 10 users have encountered a frustrating issue: they’re unable to update or uninstall many apps, particularly those reliant on the WinAppSDK package. This problem, initially thought to be linked to a Windows update, was soon traced to a recent update to the WinAppSDK 1.6.2 package, released on that date.

Microsoft has confirmed the issue, which affects apps dependent on WinAppSDK, such as Microsoft Teams and other third-party apps, on Windows 10 22H2. The problem doesn’t affect other versions of Windows 10 or Windows 11. When trying to update an affected app via the Microsoft Store, users are greeted with the generic “Something happened on our end” error message.

In response, Microsoft has withdrawn the WinAppSDK 1.6.2 update and plans to release a fix through a new 1.6.3 update shortly. The company has promised that the fix will be delivered via Windows Update and other methods within the coming days.

For users experiencing this issue now, Microsoft has provided a temporary workaround. If you have administrator privileges, you can follow the provided PowerShell instructions to resolve the problem manually until the official fix arrives.
