Dell PCs Face Shutdown Issues After Windows 11 24H2 Update

The Windows 11 24H2 annual feature update has introduced yet another compatibility issue, this time affecting Dell PCs and laptops. Users have reported that their devices fail to shut down or hibernate properly after installing the update. According to a support document from Dell, the issue stems from a conflict between the Windows update and version 11.9 of the Dell Encryption App.

While Microsoft has previously halted the rollout of 24H2 for systems experiencing compatibility issues like USB printer malfunctions and problems with Ubisoft games, Dell systems remain eligible for the update despite these shutdown errors. This exposes users to potential disruption if they proceed with the installation.

Dell has addressed the issue by releasing version 11.10 of its Encryption App, which resolves the shutdown problem. The update is automatically deployed to affected systems, so users need only ensure their devices stay connected to receive the fix.

Other manufacturers appear unaffected by this specific problem, but reports suggest Asus PCs may experience sound-related issues after upgrading to 24H2. Specifically, Dolby Digital drivers may not install automatically, requiring users to download and install the drivers manually from Asus’s support page.
