Google’s Gemini 2.0 Launches with “Deep Research” for Smarter Report Creation
Google is introducing version 2.0 of its Gemini AI model, bringing with it a new feature called Deep Research, aimed at mimicking human research processes and producing thorough reports. This innovative tool goes beyond simply generating a report; it first crafts a research plan, asking the user to approve the general outline before diving into the creation of the final report, complete with proper citations.
Deep Research works by gathering information from a range of online sources. As the AI combs through over 48 websites, it continually refines the report draft, updating it in real-time as it uncovers new information. The process, which Google claims takes a few minutes, mirrors how a human might research and adjust their findings over time. Once complete, users can export the report into a Google Doc, with links to the original sources for further exploration.
The tool seems designed with students in mind, particularly grad students looking to gather information quickly and efficiently. However, this feature might raise concerns among educators, as it could potentially be used for academic cheating. Deep Research will be available as part of Google’s Gemini Advanced subscription at $19.99 per month, which includes access to Google One and the latest AI models.
