Microsoft Store Update Will Automatically Update Third-Party Apps
A new feature coming to the Microsoft Store will soon allow automatic updates for third-party apps that are not hosted on Microsoft’s own servers. According to Windows Central, this update will enable third-party apps, once listed in the Microsoft Store, to be updated in the same way as Microsoft’s own apps. These third-party apps will be labeled with a “provided and updated by” tag from their respective developers or publishers, and they will appear in the general update list when users click “Get updates.”
Previously, only apps hosted directly by Microsoft could receive automatic updates through the Store, but this new feature will extend that functionality to third-party apps that are configured to download from external sources. However, it’s important to note that this new feature does not apply to apps that are downloaded outside the Microsoft Store, such as from product pages or platforms like GitHub.
At the moment, this feature is available only to Windows Insiders, and there is no confirmed release date for when it will roll out to the general public.
