This might be an official look at the OnePlus 13R

While OnePlus has just launched the OnePlus 13, rumours are also swirling around the brand’s next mid-range phone, the OnePlus 13R.

With its predecessor, the OnePlus 12R (pictured), making waves in the market, the 13R is generating plenty of buzz as the brand’s next affordable yet powerful offering.

Here’s everything we know so far about its release date, price, and specifications.

When will the OnePlus 13R be released?

While the flagship OnePlus 13 was officially unveiled on 31 October 2024 in China, the slightly more budget-friendly OnePlus 13R is still waiting its turn.

As the global launch of the OnePlus 13 has been officially announced for January 2025, the OnePlus 13R may arrive alongside it or shortly after, just as the 12R did in January 2024.

As per 91mobiles’ report, the OnePlus 13R was already spotted on the SIRIM certification site with the model number ‘CPH2645’. The moniker ‘OnePlus 13R’ is mentioned there, seemingly confirming the name of the phone.

According to MySmartPrice’s report, the OnePlus 13R has recently appeared in certifications from NBTC, SGS Fimko, and the Global Certification Forum (GCF), confirming its imminent release. The device is once again identified by model number ‘CPH2645’, plus ‘CPH2647’ or ‘SPH2647’, varying by region.

Historically, OnePlus releases its mid-range ‘R’ models soon after its main flagship series, meaning the OnePlus 13R could see a global release in early 2025.

This timeline aligns with the previous models which were launched several months after their flagship counterparts:

• OnePlus 11R – February 2023
• OnePlus 12R – February 2024

It’s also expected (via Android Headlines) that the OnePlus 13R could be a rebranded version of the OnePlus Ace 5, which name is already confirmed (via GSMArena) and it’s set to launch in December (via GSMArena.)

This could mean that the OnePlus 13R will indeed be unveiled shortly afterwards.

How much will the OnePlus 13R cost?

While the exact pricing for the OnePlus 13R has not yet been confirmed, it’s expected to be positioned in the premium mid-range segment.

For context, the OnePlus 12R was priced at £649/$599/€699. Given the rumoured upgrades, including the powerful Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 or 8 Elite chipsets, we can expect the OnePlus 13R to be priced similarly, though it may rise slightly depending on the specifications and regional pricing strategies.

What specs and features will the OnePlus 13R have?

Although OnePlus has not officially revealed the OnePlus 13R’s specifications, leaks and rumours provide a good idea of what to expect.

Design

For those curious about the design of this high-end but not flagship-level device, a OnePlus executive has shared official images of the Ace 5, which is expected to be the Chinese counterpart to the 13R based on previous releases.

The images reveal a phone with very slim bezels, rounded corners, and a selfie camera positioned as expected. The power and volume buttons are located on the right side, while the alert slider is placed on the left.

These photos, which are genuine rather than rendered, offer an early glimpse into the pottential OnePlus 13R’s aesthetic.

While the specifics regarding materials and colour options are still under wraps, the phone is likely to mirror its flagship counterpart, the OnePlus 13, albeit with a few differences to keep it competitively priced.

The back design is clean and minimalist, highlighted by a circular camera module that is less prominent compared to its predecessor, the OnePlus 12R. One standout feature is the ceramic back, an unusual choice for a phone in this price segment, lending it a premium feel.

Leaker Arsène Lupin claims the base model (12GB/256GB) will only come in the ‘Black Eclipse’ colour. Additional colour options include ‘Midnight Ocean’ and ‘Arctic Dawn’, which correspond to the black, blue, and white variants released in China but with more elaborate names.

On the other hand, 91mobiles claims its colour options are ‘Nebula Noir’ and ‘Astral Trail’ and “we might see a third colour variant a few months after its debut.”

The same report also shares that the phone will measure 161.72 x 75.77 x 8.02mm, making it shorter and thinner than the OnePlus 12R.

Display

It’s anticipated that the device will come with a flat display instead of the curved designs typically seen in flagship models, offering a premium yet simplified look.

According to Android Headlines and Digital Chat Station on Weibo, the OnePlus 13R will feature a 1.5K resolution flat display manufactured by BOE, much like the OnePlus Ace 5.

The screen size has yet to be confirmed, but 91mobiles reports it to be a 6.78-inch (1264×2780) AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate and 450 PPI. This is the same as the OnePlus 12R but there could be upgrades in areas like peak brightness.

Performance

The OnePlus 13R is unlikely to be available with the Snapdragon 8 Elite, as this chipset powers the flagship OnePlus 13.

That’s why Digital Chat Station claims that the OnePlus Ace 5 (therefore the 13R as well) will be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. A recent report from 91mobiles also supports this claim.

IF true, this would mark a significant performance boost compared to its predecessor, which featured the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2.

Recent leaks (via GSMArena and 91mobiles) also reveals that the phone will be available internationally in two RAM/storage configurations: 12GB/256GB and 16GB/512GB. The OnePlus 12R is available in three configurations, so there might be more options at launch or later.

The phone was reportedly listed in Geekbench (via MySmartPrice) with the model number CPH2645. The tested device features Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, 12GB of RAM, Android 15 with OxygenOS 15 and scored 2238 points in single-core and 6761 points in multi-core tests.

Another Geekbench listing (also via MySmartPrice) reveals that the OnePlus Ace 5, benchmarked with the model number PKG110, will also feature the same chipset. Scores of 2212 and 6961 are also in line with the previous listing.

Cameras

Digital Chat Station claims the OnePlus 13R will feature a 50Mp Sony IMX906 primary camera, known for its large 1/1.56-inch sensor size, which should deliver excellent low-light performance and sharp, detailed images.

The phone is also rumoured to include a 50Mp Samsung JN1 telephoto lens, offering enhanced zoom capabilities compared to the OnePlus 12R, which lacked a telephoto sensor.

This dual-camera setup could provide a substantial upgrade for photography enthusiasts, especially those interested in portrait shots and zoom photography.

According to 91mobiles, the phone will house a triple-camera setup of 50Mp (f/1.8) + 8Mp (f/2.2) + 50Mp (f/2.0) and a 16 MP (f/2.4) front camera. One upgrade here is the new 50Mp camera on the OnePlus 13R.

Battery & charging

One of the most exciting features of the OnePlus 13R is its rumoured (via Android Authority and 91mobiles) 6000mAh battery, a noticeable improvement over the 5500mAh battery found in the OnePlus 12R.

This larger battery should provide longer usage times, particularly for heavy users who rely on their phone for gaming, media, and work.

Additionally, the OnePlus Ace series is expected to support 100W fast wired charging (via 91mobiles), allowing for rapid charging times, a signature feature of recent OnePlus devices.

However, in another report, 91mobiles claims that the OnePlus 13R will feature only 80W fast charging support, which is a downgrade as the 12R supports up to 100W.

Elsewhere, Digital Chat Station claims the OnePlus Ace 5 will have a 6,200mAh with support for 100W wired charging.

Software

The phone is expected to run OxygenOS 15, based on Android 15 out of the box (via 91mobiles.)
