YouTube TV Subscribers Face $10 Monthly Increase Starting January 2025
As the new year approaches, Google has announced a significant price hike for YouTube TV, raising its base subscription cost by $10 to $82.99 per month. This adjustment, effective January 13, 2025, marks the second price increase in under two years, following the jump from $64.99 to $72.99 in April 2023.
In an email sent to subscribers, Google attributed the increase to “the rising cost of content” and stated that the adjustment reflects the “complete value of YouTube TV.” Existing subscribers will see the updated pricing reflected in their billing cycle following the effective date, while those on promotional rates will continue to enjoy their discounts until they expire.
The news of this price adjustment follows a recent Verizon promotion that prematurely mentioned the higher subscription fee. Though initially dismissed as incorrect by Google’s “TeamYouTube” on X, the official announcement solidifies the reality of the hike.
This change places YouTube TV’s base rate on par with Hulu + Live TV, which increased its pricing to $82.99 in October. Similarly, Sling TV raised its rates by $5.99 in November, citing similar content cost pressures. As competition in the streaming space intensifies, price hikes have become a recurring trend, challenging the affordability that once defined cord-cutting services.
While the increased cost reflects the expansive content offerings and features of YouTube TV, such as unlimited DVR storage and a broad array of live channels, the hike may push some subscribers to reevaluate their options. Alternatives like Sling TV, Hulu + Live TV, and other streaming bundles could present compelling choices for cost-conscious viewers.
