Google Releases Chrome 132 with 16 Security Fixes and New Features

Google has rolled out the new Chrome version 132.0.6834.83/84 for Windows and macOS, and 132.0.6834.83 for Linux, addressing 16 security vulnerabilities that have yet to be exploited for attacks. This update also introduces new features, including enhanced search with Google Lens. Chrome users will soon see similar updates from other Chromium-based browsers as well.

In the Chrome Release Blog, Srinivas Sista highlights 13 of the 16 vulnerabilities discovered by external security researchers. Among them, five vulnerabilities are categorized as high risk, earning a total of $37,000 in rewards for those who reported them. Google, however, hasn’t commented on vulnerabilities found internally.

Following the previous update for Chrome 131, which fixed four vulnerabilities, Chrome 132 automatically updates for most users. However, manual updates can be initiated by navigating to Help > About Google Chrome or Settings > About Google Chrome. Google has also released Chrome 131.0.6778.200 for Android, fixing the same vulnerabilities as the desktop version.

Among the new features in Chrome 132, Google has introduced options like pinning shortcuts to the toolbar, Google Password Manager sharing for Android and iOS, and the ability to use Google Lens on the desktop for better web search interaction, including selecting photos or videos to search.

Other Chromium-based browsers like Microsoft Edge, Vivaldi, and Brave are expected to follow suit with their own updates to stay in line with Chrome’s security improvements. However, Opera will need to catch up soon as it currently uses an older Chromium version.
