Discovery+ Announces Price Hike for Both Ad-Free and Ad-Supported Plans
Discovery+ has announced a price increase for its ad-free and ad-supported subscription plans, signaling a new cost structure for the streaming service in 2025. Starting immediately, the ad-free version of Discovery+ will now cost $9.99 per month, up from its previous price of $8.99. Similarly, the ad-supported plan will see an increase of $1, bringing the new rate to $5.99 a month.
These price changes apply to new subscribers immediately, while existing Discovery+ users will experience the increase on their first billing cycle after February 7. The last time Discovery+ raised its prices was in October 2023, when the ad-free tier saw a $2 increase, moving from $6.99 to $8.99 per month. Meanwhile, the ad-supported plan remained unaffected by a price hike in the U.S. during that period, although there was a $1 CAD increase for Canadian users.
While Discovery+ continues to offer a robust selection of popular shows like Chopped, Ghost Adventures, and Gold Rush, much of its content has now been integrated into the Max streaming service, which rebranded from HBO Max in May 2023. The initial strategy was to eventually merge Discovery+ with Max, but Warner Bros. Discovery decided to keep Discovery+ as a standalone offering to cater to more budget-conscious streamers.
In 2023, Max also underwent its own round of price hikes, raising its Ad-Free tier to $16.99 per month from $15.99, and its Ultimate Ad-Free plan, which includes 4K HDR streaming, saw a slight increase from $19.99 to $20.99 per month. These price adjustments have become more common across streaming platforms as they adapt to inflation and increasing operational costs.
Discovery+ offers viewers a wide range of content, including fan favorites like Murdaugh Murders and Home Town, making it a go-to service for those interested in reality TV and true crime series. Despite these price increases, it remains a viable option for users who want to enjoy a range of shows without breaking the bank.
