LaCie’s Rugged SSD Pro5: Speed Meets Durability at CES 2025

When it comes to electronics, durability often comes at the cost of performance. However, Seagate’s LaCie aims to break that tradeoff with its Rugged SSD Pro5 series, revealed at CES 2025. These drives promise high performance without compromising their iconic durability.

Available in 2TB and 4TB capacities, the Rugged SSD Pro5 boasts impressive read speeds up to 6,700MB/s and write speeds up to 5,300MB/s. These speeds are achievable with Thunderbolt 5 devices, making them ideal for demanding workflows. While they aren’t the fastest SSDs overall, they stand out as the fastest drives in the rugged category, designed to withstand extreme conditions.

LaCie’s rugged design is built for tough environments, offering drop resistance from up to three meters and an IP68 rating for dust and water resistance. Whether you’re a filmmaker in remote locations or a photographer in unpredictable weather, these drives are up for the challenge. Adding to their reliability, the drives come with a five-year limited warranty and include Rescue Data Recovery Services in select regions, offering peace of mind against data loss.

Set to launch later in January, the Rugged SSD Pro5 is priced at $400 for the 2TB model and $600 for the 4TB version.
