Introducing the “Steam Brick”: A Headless Steam Deck for PC Gaming Enthusiasts

The Steam Deck has revolutionized portable PC gaming with its affordability, portability, and Linux-based SteamOS. But one modder, crastinator–pro, decided to take it to the next level by creating the “Steam Brick”, a stripped-down and compact version of the Steam Deck.

Detailed on the Steam Brick GitHub page and spotted by Hackaday, this mod involves removing everything but the main motherboard, cooling system, and battery, which are then housed in a custom-made 3D-printed case. The result? A tiny headless PC that measures 7.6 x 4.9 inches and weighs just over a pound.

The Steam Brick is versatile: it can be used on the go with a wireless controller and portable screen or even AR glasses like the Xreal Air 2 Pro. Alternatively, it can be docked to an external monitor via USB-C for a more traditional gaming setup.

This innovative design demonstrates the flexibility and appeal of the Steam Deck platform while highlighting the creativity of the modding community.
