TP-Link Tapo Expands Smart Home Ecosystem with New Security and Lighting Solutions at CES 2025

At CES 2025, TP-Link introduced several exciting new products in its Tapo smart home ecosystem, covering a wide range of categories from home security to smart lighting. Among the new releases were security cameras, a smart door lock, and even a new NVR system, expanding the brand’s footprint in the smart home space.

In light of recent concerns about security flaws in TP-Link routers, the company was quick to address these issues by clarifying that TP-Link Systems, the brand behind the Tapo product line, operates independently from TP-Link Technologies in China. According to a spokesperson, TP-Link Systems manufactures its products in Brazil and Vietnam and controls its own supply chain from design to production, distancing itself from the security concerns tied to its parent company.

New Tapo Security Innovations

  • Tapo PalmKey Smart Door Lock: One of the standout products at CES, the PalmKey Smart Door Lock features cutting-edge palm-vein recognition technology, providing enhanced accuracy and security over traditional fingerprint or facial recognition. This lock ensures reliable access even for users with wet or dirty hands, and it offers seven other unlocking methods, including PIN codes, Wi-Fi remote control, and third-party integrations. With a 10,000 mAh rechargeable battery, the lock can last a long time between charges and is IP65 weatherproof.
  • Tapo C675D Kit: TP-Link also revealed the Tapo C675D Kit, a 4K dual-lens security camera designed to eliminate blind spots. The camera system features a wide-angle camera paired with a pan/tilt camera for full coverage, while both cameras are connected to an included solar panel for continuous power. The compact design makes it a great choice for those seeking a discreet yet powerful camera solution.
  • Tapo C6165D 4G Security Camera: For properties where Wi-Fi coverage is limited, the Tapo C6165D offers a 4G solution, eliminating the need for a subscription while still providing excellent coverage. This model can also pair with TP-Link’s new Tapo NVR system, a 24/7 video recording system that can handle up to 8 cameras simultaneously and supports up to 20TB of storage for video footage. Local AI processing makes it easy to search footage based on specific criteria, reducing reliance on cloud services.

Smart Lighting Gets Smarter with Tapo Atom Link

  • Tapo Atom Link: The new Tapo Atom Link smart lighting system is designed to solve one of the most common problems with smart lighting—internet connectivity issues. It uses both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth mesh technology, ensuring your lights remain operational even if the Wi-Fi network goes down. The system includes smart bulbs, smart downlights, and smart switches, all of which can be controlled via the Tapo app. Voice control through Alexa or Google Home is supported, and AI can create customized lighting scenes based on your home’s setup.

TP-Link Tapo plans to release these products in Spring 2025, with prices to be announced closer to launch. These additions promise to further enhance the smart home experience, offering cutting-edge security features and seamless, reliable lighting solutions.
