Windows 11 Patch KB5050009 Brings a Series of New Issues
Released two weeks ago on January 15, the first patch of 2025 for Windows 11 (KB5050009) was meant to address issues within the problematic 24H2 version of the operating system. However, users are reporting a slew of new problems after installing the update, leading to mounting frustration.
Main Issues with KB5050009
One of the primary issues introduced by this update is sound failure. Specifically, USB DAC ports no longer work, meaning headphones connected through these ports are not recognized. Even when users switch to Bluetooth headphones, they may still be left without sound, as Bluetooth devices are connected but do not produce audio. This issue has been reported by users across various devices, and no specific manufacturer has been tied to the problem.
A similar issue was encountered in December, with a different Windows 11 patch, prompting Microsoft to block the 24H2 update for affected devices. However, no update block has been issued for KB5050009, meaning the problems persist.
Other Problems in KB5050009
In addition to audio and Bluetooth issues, several other bugs have been reported:
- Webcam recognition failure: Integrated webcams, particularly those built into Dell monitors, are no longer recognized by some PCs.
- Installation errors: Some users are encountering error codes or facing endless restarts during installation.
- Keyboard issues: The Alt + Tab key combination crashes Windows during gaming sessions.
- Task Manager issues: Ctrl + Alt + Delete and the Task Manager no longer function properly.
- App control problems: Smart App Control is blocking legitimate apps and even affecting Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL).
Currently, there’s no fix for these issues. The recommended solution is to uninstall the update and pause future updates to avoid the ongoing problems.
As Microsoft pushes for Windows 10 users to upgrade to Windows 11 24H2 with a free upgrade offer, the timing of this patch and its associated problems are proving to be an inconvenient setback.
