Microsoft Enhances Clipchamp with New Features for Easier Editing
Back in 2022, Microsoft integrated Clipchamp into Windows 11, providing users with a free and user-friendly video editor. While often overlooked, Clipchamp is also available through Microsoft 365, making it a valuable tool for casual and professional editors alike. Over time, Microsoft has continued to refine the software, and in 2023, the platform was upgraded with several AI-powered features to enhance the editing experience.
Now, Microsoft is rolling out a new version of Clipchamp packed with significant improvements designed to make video editing even more intuitive and efficient. Announced in a recent blog post, these updates include a long-awaited light mode, improved asset organization, a redesigned editing interface, and more precise timeline controls.
Key Features in the New Clipchamp Update
- Light Mode Support – Previously, Clipchamp was only available in dark mode, but now users can switch between light, dark, and system mode, with the latter adjusting based on Windows settings.
- Improved Asset Organization – Users can now group multiple assets (such as text, images, and music) into a single unit on the timeline. This makes complex projects easier to manage, with a thumbnail preview showing which elements are grouped together. Simply select multiple items, right-click, and choose “Group” to use this feature.
- Redesigned Video Editor – Clipchamp’s interface has been overhauled to be more user-friendly. New options allow users to minimize sidebars and timeline sections, zoom in and out, play videos in full-screen mode, undo/redo actions, adjust the aspect ratio, and even add AI-generated subtitles.
- More Precise Timeline Editing – Editing frame-by-frame is now easier with timestamp visibility when hovering over the timeline or cutting a clip, allowing for greater precision when trimming footage.
This update is gradually rolling out to Clipchamp users with Personal accounts, while those using Work accounts will receive the update in March 2025.
With these enhancements, Microsoft is positioning Clipchamp as a more competitive built-in video editing solution, bridging the gap between casual content creation and professional editing workflows.
