Apple Confirms Netflix in Apple TV App Was Just a Bug
For a brief moment, Apple TV users thought they had finally achieved what had seemed impossible—integrating Netflix into the Apple TV app. But as it turns out, the excitement was short-lived. Apple has now confirmed to The Verge that the ability to add Netflix as a connected service was actually just a bug and has been rolled back.
This explains why those who briefly experienced Netflix integration earlier in the Apple TV app noticed inconsistent behavior. Some users were able to link their Netflix accounts, yet Netflix shows failed to appear in the Continue Watching section, and in some cases, only a few seasons of certain titles were displayed. Additionally, the “Add to Watchlist” button appeared for some Netflix titles but later vanished, further fueling speculation about a rollout gone wrong.
Initially, many assumed the inconsistencies were part of a staggered rollout, but it turns out that was merely wishful thinking. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman tweeted on Friday that he suspected the Netflix integration was “probably some sort of bug” and that Netflix’s sudden support for the Apple TV app seemed highly unlikely. Apple quickly confirmed to The Verge that the integration was never meant to happen in the first place.
For years, Apple TV users have wanted Netflix to join other major streaming platforms—such as Prime Video, Disney+, Hulu, Max, and Peacock—in offering Apple TV app integration. These services allow their content to appear in universal search, watchlists, and the Continue Watching shelf, making it easier for users to keep track of their shows and movies in one place. Unfortunately, Netflix has always remained the notable exception, forcing subscribers to navigate through its standalone app instead.
With this bug now patched, it seems Netflix integration with the Apple TV app is back to its long-standing “maybe one day” status. Until then, Netflix users will have to continue juggling between apps.
