Will we ever be free of Netflix price hikes? Apparently not, because the streaming giant has confirmed a fresh batch of increases.
The US, Canada, Argentina and Portugal got a price hike in January, but the UK managed to escape. This has now changed.

When is Netflix UK increasing its prices?
On Thursday 6 February 2025, Cordbusters spotted that Netflix had increased its prices on the website – which we can now confirm on the plans and prices page.
The article states that it will impact new subscribers immediately while existing ones will see it affect them in the next billing cycle.
Netflix’s last price increase for the UK was on 18 October 2023 for both new and existing subscribers, which is over a year ago – so an increase now is unsurprising.
How much is the Netflix UK price increase?
These are the new prices for Netflix UK going forward:
- Netflix Standard with Ads: Increase from £4.99 to £5.99 per month
- Netflix Standard: Increase from £10.99 to £12.99 per month
- Netflix Premium: Increase from £17.99 to £18.99 per month
- Netflix Extra member: Increase from £4.99 per month to £5.99 per month
That’s a £1 increase across all the plans apart from the Standard one, which is going up by £2. The Premium plan’s new cost is less than we initially predicted when comparing like-for-like to the US and European plans. Nonetheless, any price hike is hardly welcome.

Is there any way to avoid a Netflix price hike?
Short of cancelling your Netflix subscription, no. Netflix does not offer annual plans like Disney+ and Amazon Prime do.
The best way to save money is to either downgrade your plan or leave the service and get your streaming needs from a rival platform.
In addition, Cordbusters has pointed out that TV bundles which include Netflix (such as Virgin, Sky and EE TV) have not yet increased their prices on plans which include the streaming service. Of course, this could change in the future.

How much is the Netflix US price increase?
Netflix announced the new American price hikes on 21 January 2025, and they will come into effect during subscribers’ next billing cycle.
Here’s what the numbers look like:
- Netflix Standard with Ads: Increasing from $6.99 to $7.99 per month
- Netflix Standard: Increasing from $15.49 to $17.99 per month
- Netflix Premium: Increasing from $22.99 to $24.99 per month
