Abode Unveils Apple TV and Upgraded Android TV Apps for Seamless Home Security Control
Abode Systems, the DIY smart home and security specialists, have launched their first Apple TV app, alongside a revamped version of their existing Android TV app. The new software aims to enhance the user experience by allowing Abode customers to control their self-installed security systems directly from their TV or set-top box remote, offering convenience for users who prefer to manage their smart homes from the comfort of their couch. With a wide range of apps already available for smartphones, smartwatches, tablets, and computers, this addition brings even greater accessibility to Abode’s diverse ecosystem.
The new Apple TV app lets users manage their home security system and smart devices, including lights and thermostats, through the Abode dashboard. However, the key highlight of the app is the ability to view live camera feeds from up to four Abode security cameras or video doorbells on a connected TV. Users can also review recorded clips, and with AC-powered cameras offering 24/7 recording, you can scrub through a 10-day timeline to find specific events.
Abode’s products, such as the Abode Smart Security Kit and the Abode Iota All-in-One Security Kit, support Apple HomeKit, Amazon Alexa, and Google Assistant. However, it’s important to note that Abode’s cameras do not integrate with Apple’s HomeKit Security Video platform. For more information on Abode’s smart home integrations, visit their website.
Meanwhile, the Android TV app offers similar functionality. Abode mentions that while the menu layouts and design may differ slightly from the Apple TV app, users will have access to the same camera features and will be able to control their Abode system and connected devices from their Android TV.
Abode has clarified that it currently has no plans to develop apps for other TV platforms, such as Amazon Fire TV, LG’s WebOS, Roku OS, or Samsung’s Tizen OS. However, the company hasn’t completely ruled out the possibility for the future.
