Get Ready for AMD’s Ryzen 9 9950X3D and 9900X3D — BIOS Updates Are on the Way!
AMD’s highly anticipated Ryzen 9 9950X3D and Ryzen 9 9900X3D processors are almost here, but while we’re still waiting for an official release date, there’s a big clue that they’re launching soon. MSI has already announced BIOS updates for its motherboards, ensuring a smooth upgrade experience when the new chips drop.
This kind of update is pretty common for new processors, but given that these Ryzen CPUs are designed specifically for gamers, MSI’s press release highlights this update, mentioning its MEG X870E GODLIKE flagship ATX motherboard. However, any motherboard with an AM5 socket should technically be compatible, even without the update.
Why does this matter? Well, I recently ran into a headache of my own while assembling a gaming PC for my brother-in-law over the holiday. Despite using a motherboard model that I had previously installed in my own system and the Ryzen 9 7950X3D being an AM5 processor, the system wouldn’t boot without a BIOS update. It’s an issue that’s particularly frustrating if you don’t have a backup PC to troubleshoot with, especially while you’re away from home for the holidays.
So, to every eager gamer out there waiting for the new Ryzen CPUs, take a moment to update your BIOS/UEFI before you make the upgrade. And keep in mind that the Ryzen 9800X3D processor from last year has been hard to come by, so the newer 16-core and 12-core versions are likely to fly off the shelves too.
