It’ll roll-out faster than One UI 7 – not that the bar is high

One UI7 is now rolling out to older Galaxy models, after a start-stop-start beginning, but Samsung fans can already direct their gaze to what’s coming next. According to recent rumours, Samsung is already working on One UI 8.

This update is expected to bring smoother animations, better customisation options, and a bunch of exciting new features. If you’re wondering when you’ll get it, which Android version it’s based on, and what upgrades to expect, we’ve got you covered.

When will my Samsung Galaxy phone get One UI 8?

While SmartPrix and leaker Tarun Vats report that One UI 8 is already in the works, its official rollout schedule hasn’t yet been announced. However, a Samsung Community moderator in the US has spoken out to clarify the situation.

They confirmed One UI 8 hasn’t been officially announced and is only being tested internally. There’s no beta version yet, and none will be released until One UI 7 is fully rolled out.

For now, Samsung’s beta team is committed to One UI 7 improvements, and a public One UI 8 beta is still months away.

Android 16, which One UI 8 will likely be based on, is set to launch in the second quarter of the year, with a rumoured release date of 3 June 2025.

Historically, Samsung has taken about two to three months after the official Android release to start rolling out its One UI updates. That would place the software update around August or September.

We do have a hint as to the release date of One UI 8, thanks to an exclusive report from the reliable SamMobile. The new software update will reportedly come pre-loaded on the Galaxy Z Flip 7 and Fold 7 – both of which are expected to launch in July or August 2025.

However, Samsung might also wait until the release of the Galaxy S26 series. Older flagship devices should follow shortly after.

Which version of Android is One UI 8 based on?

As we noted above, One UI 8 will be based on Android 16. Despite the fact that Samsung is rolling out One UI 7 (which is based on Android 15), leaks from its internal apps confirm that One UI 8 development is already underway.
