Microsoft is acknowledging widespread issues tied to the latest Shared Calendar Improvements introduced in the classic version of Outlook. While the enhancements were meant to streamline collaboration and improve calendar syncing, they’ve instead triggered a variety of frustrating bugs and confusing behaviors for users. According to the company’s official support page—last updated just yesterday—the problems range from meetings getting accidentally cancelled for certain attendees to attachments vanishing unexpectedly, only to return later without explanation. In some instances, changes made to attachments aren’t reflected properly for all participants, leading to inconsistencies and confusion.

Although Microsoft has already issued fixes for some of the reported bugs, others remain unresolved, and the company is actively working on solutions. The calendar-related disruptions appear to be affecting core scheduling features, making routine collaboration difficult for users who rely on Outlook to manage meetings and shared events. In particular, the unintentional deletion and reappearance of attachments is causing concern for those handling sensitive or time-critical documents.

Complicating matters further, not all user complaints stem from actual bugs. Some of the perceived issues are, in fact, intentional changes to how the classic Outlook client now behaves. One example Microsoft highlights is the disappearing of calendar appointments created by users with limited permissions. While some might view this as a software error, Microsoft clarifies that this is expected behavior under the new update rules. Such shifts in functionality are blurring the lines between bugs and features, frustrating users who are unprepared for the nuances of the new system.

These calendar changes and their fallout underscore the challenges of updating legacy applications. As Microsoft continues refining Outlook’s shared calendar experience, users may need to adjust not only to technical glitches but also to new workflow realities introduced by the redesign. Until a more stable update is released, those dependent on precise calendar functionality may experience disruptions in their daily operations.
