MSI Revives Its Retro Cyclone Design with New RTX 5060 GPUs
After teasing the idea at Computex, MSI is officially bringing back its retro-inspired Cyclone series of RTX graphics cards, starting with the RTX 5060 lineup. The Cyclone series embraces a minimalist, no-frills aesthetic that’s a refreshing change from the usual bulky coolers and flashy RGB lighting. Gone is the extra LCD screen seen on the prototype at the show—this version sticks to basics, focusing purely on solid performance and cooling.
The MSI RTX 5060 8GB Cyclone OC is promoted as a “legacy reborn for a new era,” which might sound a bit grand, but honestly, a straightforward design like this is welcome in today’s crowded GPU market. The card features an open-air cooler with a single, circular fan sitting atop a hefty heatsink equipped with twin heat pipes. Despite its cooling hardware, the card remains compact at just 161mm long and 42mm wide, fitting comfortably into a dual-slot setup. Connectivity includes three DisplayPort 2.1b outputs and one HDMI 2.1b port, offering plenty of options for high-refresh-rate or 4K displays.
While the exposed heatsink means you’ll want to plan your case airflow carefully and manage cables neatly to avoid blocking ventilation, the card’s design looks great and promises efficient cooling without unnecessary bulk.
According to VideoCardz, MSI’s global website lists not only the OC version of the RTX 5060 but also a standard, non-overclocked variant, plus two versions of the RTX 5060 Ti—also in standard and OC editions. However, the rumored 16GB RTX 5060 Ti variant hasn’t surfaced yet.
Pricing details remain under wraps, and these Cyclone cards haven’t appeared on major US retail sites or MSI’s domestic page yet. For now, the refreshed Cyclone design seems poised to appeal to fans of simple, effective hardware without all the extra flash.
