BulletVPN shuts down, canceling lifetime subscriptions and leaving users stranded
In a move that underscores the risks associated with lifetime VPN subscriptions, BulletVPN has officially ceased operations, abruptly ending service for all customers—including those with lifetime access. The Estonia-based VPN provider, which had been operating since 2015, announced the shutdown last week via a message titled “BulletVPN End of Life” on its homepage. The announcement confirmed that its VPN services are no longer available.
BulletVPN had been selling lifetime plans for as little as $39 as recently as last month, a pricing tactic common among smaller VPN providers trying to gain a foothold in a competitive market. However, as has been demonstrated before, such offers are often unsustainable. The sudden shutdown of BulletVPN closely follows a similar event in May, when VPNSecure terminated all lifetime subscriptions after a change in ownership.
In its shutdown message, BulletVPN cited “shifts in market demand, evolving technology requirements, and sustainability of operations” as reasons for the closure. The unexpected move has left many users frustrated, particularly those who invested in what they believed would be a one-time purchase for long-term service.
Fortunately, rival VPN provider Windscribe is stepping in to offer some relief. BulletVPN users who previously held lifetime subscriptions are eligible for a complimentary 6-month subscription to Windscribe, along with discounted pricing for long-term plans. To take advantage of the offer, affected users are encouraged to reach out to support@bulletvpn.com.
