Intel’s Arrow Lake Update to Bring Copilot+ to Desktop PCs

Microsoft’s AI-powered Copilot+ experience has so far been exclusive to select laptops, but that’s about to change. According to ZDNet Korea (via The Verge), Intel is preparing to update its Arrow Lake desktop processors with a powerful new NPU (Neural Processing Unit) that meets the requirements for Copilot+ support, including advanced features like Windows Recall.

The upgrade, known internally as NPU 4, will bring 40 TOPS (trillion operations per second) of AI performance to the desktop segment—the minimum needed for Copilot+ certification. This marks a significant step in Microsoft’s effort to expand its AI ecosystem beyond mobile platforms, unlocking Copilot+ capabilities for high-performance desktop users and creators.

This enhanced NPU will reportedly mirror the one found in Intel’s Lunar Lake laptop chips, which currently serve as the backbone for Copilot+ laptops. However, don’t expect massive changes to CPU or GPU performance—sources indicate that the Core Ultra 200 desktop chips with NPU 4 will retain the same number of CPU and GPU cores as their predecessors.

Still, with Copilot+ features like Windows Recall, Cocreator, and AI-enhanced workflows requiring high AI throughput, this move is essential for bringing feature parity between Windows 11 laptops and desktops. If you’re building a desktop PC or planning a workstation upgrade later this year, Intel’s updated Arrow Lake CPUs could finally offer full Copilot+ support—without compromises.
