When it comes to gaming performance, speed is king — and LG is pushing the limits with its latest OLED gaming monitor, boasting a staggering refresh rate of up to 720Hz. However, there’s a catch: to reach this blistering speed, the 27-inch panel must lower its resolution from a native 2560×1440 down to 1080p.

At its native QHD resolution, the monitor still impresses with a 540Hz refresh rate, more than double the typical 27-inch OLED gaming display standard. LG calls this new feature Dynamic Frequency & Resolution (DFR), allowing the monitor to dynamically trade off resolution for faster refresh speeds depending on user preference or game demands. This isn’t LG’s first foray into resolution-speed trade-offs — the company showcased a similar OLED monitor last year capable of switching between 4K at 240Hz and 1080p at 480Hz.

Beyond gaming monitors, LG’s OLED Heritage exhibition in Seoul unveiled some eye-catching displays. Among them was a massive 45-inch 5K2K panel with a resolution of 5120×2160 — a super-sized take on ultrawide formats, which typically max out at 3440×1440 on 34-inch screens. LG also revealed a fourth-generation 83-inch OLED TV panel, boasting a significant brightness boost up to 4,000 nits, promising vibrant, punchy visuals for home theaters.

These advanced panels are expected to make their way into monitors and TVs from LG and various industrial partners starting in 2026. It’s also possible that we’ll see some prototypes or announcements at CES in January, hinting at a new generation of ultra-fast, ultra-bright OLED displays.
