For many PC gamers, the ever-growing Steam library is both a source of pride and an ongoing joke. It’s common to buy dozens of games during seasonal sales only to leave most of them unplayed, building up what the community calls the “backlog” or “pile of shame.” But while most users end up with a few hundred games at most, one Steam user has taken this trend to a staggering extreme. Known online as SonixLegend, this player has officially been recognized as the Steam user with the largest game collection ever recorded—surpassing an incredible 40,000 purchased titles.
According to his Steam profile, SonixLegend has been an active member for about 15 years, hailing from Shanghai, China. In that time, he has steadily amassed a collection that dwarfs what most players will ever dream of owning. Valve itself has acknowledged this achievement by awarding him a unique Steam badge, marking him as the first user to pass the 40,000-game milestone. As of this week, his account stands at 40,033 full-fledged game titles—free-to-play releases, DLCs, and add-ons are excluded from that total. Beyond the core library, he also owns more than 22,000 pieces of DLC content, further expanding the scale of his digital vault.
The sheer monetary value of this account is staggering. According to estimates from tracker site SteamDB, SonixLegend’s library is valued at roughly $249,000 USD based on what he actually paid. If someone were to purchase the same collection today at current prices—including discounts where available—it would cost upwards of $641,000 USD. That makes this account not only one of the largest but also one of the most valuable digital game collections in existence.
Of course, no one could reasonably expect to play through such a massive catalog. It’s likely that the majority of these titles will never be launched, let alone completed. Even so, SonixLegend isn’t entirely inactive: he has unlocked nearly 80,000 achievements, and records show he spent over 550 hours playing the 2010 co-op shooter Alien Swarm, even going so far as to earn every achievement in that game. With his collection still expanding, it’s only a matter of time before he reaches 50,000 games—a milestone that might force Valve to create an entirely new badge just for him.
