Valve has officially discounted the base model Steam Deck by $80, dropping its price to just $319.20 on the Steam Store. Importantly, this isn’t a refurbished or second-hand deal—these are brand-new units straight from Valve, making it one of the most appealing entry points yet for anyone curious about portable PC gaming.

At this price, the Steam Deck undercuts almost every competing handheld on the market. Windows-based rivals such as the ASUS ROG Ally or Lenovo Legion Go typically start closer to $500 and rarely dip below that even during special sales, while refurbished hardware comes with compromises. The Steam Deck, meanwhile, remains a highly capable handheld three years after its launch, especially when supported by Valve’s continuous software updates. Compared to rising console prices and the looming premium price tag of Nintendo’s Switch successor, the affordability of this sale stands out even more.

It’s worth noting that the Steam Deck OLED, which includes a brighter, faster panel and improved battery efficiency, remains at its regular $549 price tag. While still competitively priced for what it offers, the OLED version doesn’t see any discount this time around. For many buyers, though, the $319.20 base model will be hard to ignore—particularly as it includes 256GB of internal storage and can easily be upgraded with larger SSDs if needed.

Valve has confirmed the sale will run until October 6 at 10 a.m. PT, but stock could be limited. Given the popularity of past Steam Deck discounts, there’s a chance the cheaper model will sell out before the end date. For anyone who has been waiting to dive into handheld PC gaming, this may be one of the best opportunities yet to grab Valve’s original model at a truly budget-friendly price.
