The European Commission has requested information from Snapchat, YouTube, the Apple App Store, and Google Play as part of its latest enforcement action under the Digital Services Act (DSA). The review seeks to determine if the platforms’ age verification systems and content filters adequately protect minors from illegal or harmful material online.
Officials said the inquiry will assess safeguards against content promoting drugs, vaping, and eating disorders — all identified as key risks for younger audiences. EU digital chief Henna Virkkunen emphasized that the process will test whether current measures genuinely ensure children’s safety.
Google said it continues to cooperate with EU authorities and highlighted its parental control features and youth-friendly design practices. The Commission’s move underscores the DSA’s growing influence as Europe tightens oversight of digital platforms to create a safer online space for minors.
